Organic cherry & olive production in Makarska region

Join us to visit two family farms: One working to preserve the historic Maraska cherry ?; the other is mastering organic olive ? cultivation to produce top-quality extra virgin olive oil.
What you can expect from this cross visit
This cross-visit provides participants with an insight into organic farming in Croatia, focusing on cherry and olive production. Through discussions with the Croatian Ministry of Agriculture, attendees will gain practical knowledge about sustainable agricultural practices and the challenges faced in the Mediterranean region.
- Gain an insight into the organic production of the domestic cherry variety Maraska, as well as efforts to preserve this variety, the challenges and benefits.
- Gain a deeper understanding of organic production in regions with a Mediterranean climate.
- Learn about the organic olive production and the further development of Croatia’s highest quality of organically produced olive oil.
- Examine the challenges of diversifying remote Croatian farms within the organic farming context.
- Engage in an active discussion with the Croatia’s advisory body, the Croatian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, on governmental support for organic production, and gain insights into organic certification, conversion processes, and production statistics .

You will be asked to provide some personal information, a brief description of your interest in joining this visit and your capacity in covering your travel costs. Participation is not guaranteed, because the number of advisors who may join the visit is limited. Participants taking part will receive a confirmation message.

Requirements
All participants are required to attend the full cross-visit program. Arriving late or leaving early is not possible, except for local participants.
Due to long travel times for some countries, we recommend that participants arrive one day before the start of the cross-visit. Split Airport has direct connections to Zagreb Airport and several other destinations, making it the most convenient arrival point.
On the second day, we will spend the entire day outside of Split, traveling by bus.
The cross-visit will conclude as outlined in the program schedule. Your departure time is up to you, depending on your travel arrangements.
Participants
Agricultural advisor supporting organic farmers or famers in conversion as well as, advisors or young graduates willing to gain competences in organic advice are welcome to join this cross visit. Maximum 15 participants.
Travel costs
In case you do not have budget to cover your travel costs, the project advisory partner in your respective country can reimburse part of your travel costs.
Eligible countries for cost reimbursement are FR, DE, IT, BG,EE, DK, AT, CH, HU, ES, PT, HR, RO, IE,NL, SE, FI, CZ, PL, GR, SI, RS.
Eligible costs for reimbursement are transport (train, flight), accommodation (2-3 nights), sociallunch and dinners, up to a limit of 400-800EUR/participant.
Once your participation to the cross visit is confirmed, you will receive more detailed information by the advisory project partner in your country about the conditions for cost reimbursement.
Costs during the cross-visit are estimated to be around 200 EUR for accommodation (breakfast included) for 2 nights and social dinner around 30-35 EUR per person. For the whole cross-visit, the estimation of the costs is around 300 EUR per person for 2 days. This estimation does not include transportation expenses to reach Split.
